Scope of Work: Modification, structural enhancement, mechanical overhaul, and retrofitting of 02 Ship-to-Shore (STS) container gantry cranes to meet upgraded terminal operational requirements.
With an experienced technical engineering team and specialized heavy-lift machinery, Tan Cang Technical Services Joint Stock Company (Tan Cang Tech) successfully executed the structural modification and retrofitting of two STS container cranes, ensuring stringent adherence to maritime safety standards, engineering precision, and client project schedules.
Key Engineering Phases in the STS Retrofit:
- Detailed Engineering & Structural Survey: 3D laser scanning, ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) of critical load-bearing joints, and structural finite element analysis (FEA).
- Mechanical & Structural Modifications: Reinforcement of portal frame members, modification of boom hinge pins, refurbishment of trolley rails, and replacement of hoisting wire rope sheaves.
- Electrical & Control System Upgrades: Modernization of variable frequency drives (VFD), PLC control cabinets, crane management system (CMS) integration, and safety interlock testing.
- Commissioning & Load Testing: Geometric alignment calibration, static and dynamic proof load testing in accordance with international maritime classification registry regulations.
Through close coordination with the client UNICO VINA and port terminal authorities, Tan Cang Tech delivered the project safely on schedule, significantly enhancing the crane operational capacity, lifting performance, and operational reliability for terminal cargo throughput.
