Following stellar success in the field of heavy-lift and oversized cargo transportation, Tan Cang Technical Services JSC (Tan Cang Tech) was once again entrusted by Saigon Newport Corporation with a pivotal mission: Transporting 06 Kalmar RTG cranes from Tan Cang – Cat Lai Port to Tan Cang – Cai Mep Port.
This was a large-scale waterway logistics campaign with a total cargo payload reaching 840 metric tons. The project not only demonstrated specialized transport capabilities but also served as clear proof of advanced engineering excellence in deck barge management, precise ballast adjustment, and heavy maritime sea-fastening calculations—factoring in every parameter from tidal water levels and quay wall elevation during Load-out/Load-in at Berth B6 and Cai Mep, down to the lashing of 144 chain turnbuckles to secure the 6 mammoth cranes.

Scope of Work for Transporting 06 Kalmar RTG Cranes:
- Route survey using motorboats and drones to measure overhead obstacle clearances along the riverway and quay cranes at staging berths
- Developing oversized and heavy-lift transport plans, comprehensive safety protocols, and contingency risk management plans…
- Shifting cranes from active operational lines to the staging area at Cat Lai Berth B6
- Loading (roll-on) 06 cranes onto the Hawee 01 barge, executing heavy-duty sea-fastening lashing to ensure maximum maritime safety and promptly vacating the berth on schedule
- Waterway heavy-lift barging of the 06 RTG cranes aboard Hawee 01 from Tan Cang – Cat Lai Port to Cai Mep Port
- Unlashing the 06 RTG cranes, roll-off / discharge, and repositioning them to their final yard staging blocks
- Demobilization, site clearance, and handover of both port berths
Despite extensive experience executing numerous heavy-lift projects—especially for port equipment—simultaneously running this 6-RTG Cai Mep relocation alongside the inter-terminal relocation of 4 RTG cranes (Giang Nam – Cat Lai – Hiep Phuoc) to optimize Berth B6 berth windows made coordinating both operations exceptionally complex.
