Erection and Commissioning of 04 eRTG Cranes at Phu Huu Port

Building upon ongoing success and market trust in the crane erection and heavy installation capabilities of Tan Cang Technical Services (DVKT), the company secured a contract to assemble and erect 04 eRTG (electric Rubber-Tired Gantry) cranes for TCGT, meeting the surging cargo handling demands across Saigon Newport Corporation and Vietnam’s maritime transport network.

Project Information

Client / Investor: TCGT

Location: Phu Huu Port

Timeline: Q2/2025

Scope of Work for eRTG Crane Erection:

  • Site layout and assembly drawings handover review
  • Formulating structural steel, mechanical component, and parts logistics sequencing to optimize assembly yard space
  • Mobilizing and coordinating specialized heavy-lift machinery, mobile cranes, rigging tools, and technical personnel to ensure project milestones
  • Assembly, installation, parameter setup, and functional testing of electrical systems, sensor arrays, and PLC control architecture
  • Assembly, mechanical alignment, and commissioning of trolley system, hoist gearboxes, operator cabin, cable reel drum, wire rope reeving, and gantry bogie wheel assemblies
  • Official crane load testing, calibration, and statutory safety certification

Affirming Leadership and Proven Experience in RTG and eRTG Crane Erection

A series of successful turnkey crane projects and RTG crane erection across major seaports nationwide serves as the clearest proof of Tan Cang Technical Services’ exceptional engineering capability.

Immediately following the successful completion of the erection of 04 Hybrid RTG cranes for Huynh Thy, Tan Cang Technical Services swiftly mobilized for the erection of 04 eRTG cranes upon the partnership request of TCGT.

eRTG cranes draw direct power from the terminal’s electric power grid rather than relying solely on diesel generators, achieving 70% to 80% energy cost savings compared to conventional diesel RTGs. This delivers immense strategic value amidst geopolitical volatility and soaring fossil fuel prices. Furthermore, with approximately 30 port facilities across Vietnam still operating conventional diesel RTG cranes, the market potential for eRTG electrification and new installations is tremendous.

Beyond Conventional eRTG Crane Erection

eRTG cranes require direct grid power connection for operation. For earlier eRTG generations, employing auxiliary onboard diesel generator sets was almost mandatory due to non-standardized port electrical infrastructure and grid instability. However, with extensive engineering experience in grid infrastructure construction and converting older RTG cranes to fully electric eRTGs, Tan Cang Technical Services has developed the most comprehensive, reliable eRTG container handling solutions for terminal operators.
